Colonel
Brecht
Brecht
was the head officer of the Imperial garrison on Tatooine when
Fabius Kane sprung the Max
Rebo Band out of Jabba's Palace. Imperial Intelligence reported
that the smuggler had been causing chaos out at Jabba's and Brecht
did not like that. He had the smuggler brought in. However, despite
the Intelligence report, Imperial forces could not find the band
nor any evidence of this. Thus, Brecht believed he had no choice
but to let Kane go. Disagreeing, the Imperial Intelligence officer
got into a physical fight with Brecht and was beating him badly,
when Kane tossed the Colonel his hold-out blaster. Brecht shot
the spy dead, as well as the two Stormtroopers who had done nothing
to protect him. Brecht then let the smuggler go. However, moments
later, he claimed his wounds were from Kane and that the criminal
had killed the three others.
Brecht
and Kane met up again on Bespin. Caught between IL1D20
Mark 1 and Mark 2
and the devious Mr. Boruu,
Kane decided that he and Papa
Beedo should try and hit up Brecht for a favor. It was a mistake
that almost cost Kane and his friend their lives. Accompanied
by an elite Storm Commando
and the High Inquisitor Tremayne,
Brecht admitted he had done what Kane alleged, but refused to
owe him anything: ordering both their deaths. Tremayne, however,
sensed Kane's latent Force abilities and wanted him corrupted.
Had Kane and Beedo not been saved by the Syndicate member, Veroshk,
their fate would have been dire indeed.
The
latter event is most profound for the effect it had on Kane, forever
souring him on the possible honor that the Empire's Order might
bring. Certainly, would Kane meet Brecht again, his response would
be quite different.
