IL-1D20
(Mark 1), a.k.a EV-9D9
The
infamy of IL-1D20 has only expanded over the past few years. Feared
as Jabba's interrogation
droid, it was then known as EV-9D9. It was in charge of getting
whatever information Jabba needed that others would not give voluntarily.
With Jabba's death it came under the employ of Tessek,
who was one of many vying to control Jabba's empire. Then two
things happened.
First,
EV-9D9 was given Fabius
Kane to interrogate and kill; the smuggler, however, was rescued
by the Gamorrean, Gartogg.
Kane blasted the droid, and assumed it was slag. He was wrong.
By the time EV-9D9 reactivated, Tessek had won the battle for
Jabba's empire and had then summarily accepted Darth
Sentine's offer to become head of Imperial Intelligence.
Surprisingly,
EV-9D9 took the name IL-1D20 and struck off on its own. Somehow,
it met the Ithorian Force-user, Papa
Beedo, and acted as his droid for a time. This led to several
other encounters with famous gangsters. In an odd twist of fate,
one of those gangsters was Kane himself, though for some reason,
neither one recognized the other.
Ultimately,
IL-1D20 betrayed those it worked with, selling out Redge
Starhammer and acquiring a small squad of Battle
Droids, working with Lobot
on Bespin, and then stealing Kane's ship
and leaving him and Beedo behind to deal with Mark
2, his rogue droid clone, alone.
When
last seen, D20 appeared more dangerous than ever: in control of
the mercanary criminal group, the 100 Guns,
and allegedly able to see through the eyes of a galaxy-wide network
of droids.
Of
addititional note, although Mark 1 was presumed unaware of it,
Kane and Beedo learned through their experiences with Mark 2 that
someone programmed IL-1D20 to be unable to hurt Fabius Kane. However,
with Kane and Donovan learning that it was the Shadow
Master who programmed it, D20 now may very well know.
